Buenos Aires, Jan 14 (NA) – After a month and a half of recovery from a surgical procedure due to a heart condition, former Córdoba Governor Juan Schiaretti has been discharged from the hospital and will assume his seat as a national deputy for Provincias Unidas in the next session of the lower house.
“This Wednesday they granted me medical discharge, so I am resuming my activity,” Schiaretti stated. On November 28 of last year, Schiaretti was successfully operated on at the Favaloro Foundation in Buenos Aires City as part of a scheduled procedure due to a heart condition. The procedure involved the replacement of the aortic valve via catheterization, a less invasive technique than traditional open-heart surgery.
The internal party conflict has erupted: radicals from Provincias Unidas demand to be the "sole representation" of the UCR in the Chamber of Deputies. Schiaretti led the Provincias Unidas list in Córdoba province, but the result was not as expected: it came in second with just over 28%, 15 points behind La Libertad Avanza, the winner of the day. With that harvest, "Cordobism" secured three seats for the 2025-2029 period, which were added to three other seats with mandates until 2027.
“In February, I will assume my seat as a national deputy for which I was elected,” confirmed the former presidential candidate through his social media X. In the elections on October 26, Schiaretti headed the Provincias Unidas list in Córdoba province, but due to complications with his health, he has not yet been able to take the oath of office and assume his position.
Schiaretti's entry will bring Provincias Unidas to 18 members, and the inter-bloc that this space forms together with Encuentro Federal and Coalición Cívica will total 22 members.
